Salary: c. £27,000 

Post Summary: Managing and developing relationship with KCF donors and fund-holders and supporting their grant-making strategies; Engaging with the local community to develop a pipeline of suitable grant applications to meet the requirement of KCF various funds; Carrying out due diligence and assessment of project proposals and presenting to grant panels for decision 

Responsible to: Director of Grants & Impact 


Main Responsibilities: 

Maintaining and developing the Community Foundation’s knowledge and expertise on social issues affecting the local community and the role of community action and philanthropy in addressing community need and creating opportunities 

Raising the profile of Kent Community Foundation’s grant & loan programmes among local charities, community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises 

Developing the pipeline of grant applications and project proposals to meet the requirements and expectations of KCF’s donor-advised and themed funds; Working proactively with potential applicants to develop proposals where appropriate 

Carrying out due diligence and assessment of applications including financials, social impact and fit with KCF funds; Post-award monitoring and evaluation of grants/loans 

Managing and developing relationships with donors, fund-holders and grant panels: 

  • Work with donors, fund-holders and panels to develop their grant-making strategies and make their philanthropic goals a reality
  • Develop funding applications and present proposals to panel, tailored to the needs of each fund, in a compelling and engaging way
  • Ensure every Fund/donor has an active client relationship management plan in place, including identifiable ‘next steps’
  • Evaluate impact of grant-making with fund-holder/panel and regularly review grant-making strategy
  • Working with Fund Development team, develop new giving opportunities

Engaging with stakeholders and influencers within KCF’s priority areas

Other duties as assigned by line-manager and CEO as appropriate


Person Specification


Commitment to and understanding of the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Kent and Medway 

An excellent knowledge and understanding of social issues affecting communities of Kent and Medway and the role that community action and local philanthropy can play in bringing about social change 

Able to carry out assessment and analysis of project proposals, people and organisations, including good financial understanding 

Able to work with donors to develop grant-making strategies; Able to inform and guide donors and grant panels as appropriate 

Excellent persuasive communication & influencing skills – writing, face-to-face, one-to-one, public presentations; Able to present a compelling case for support 

Confidence & credibility with high level of relationship and customer care skills 

Proactive and motivated – a self-starter able to identify and develop opportunities on own initiative; A high level of personal responsibility 

Approachable, good listening skills, able to engage ‘hard to reach’ groups 

Ability to work within a small team, positive ‘can-do’ approach 

Excellent IT skills; highly competent in all Microsoft Office programs 

Ability to travel in and around the county; Driving licence with unrestricted use of car



Managing high value relationships 

Experience of philanthropic grant-making or social lending 

Experience of working with clients in an advisory or consultancy role 

Working knowledge of or other similar CRM platform
