Extra funding for local government
The Leader of Kent County Council Paul Carter has welcomed the extra funding for local government announced by Communities Secretary Sajid Javid.
The final settlement has seen £150 million of additional resources allocated to local authorities across the UK, of which £3.9m will go to social care in Kent.

KCC funding changes could cost Age UK Faversham & Sittingbourne £400k a year
From March 2019 the council plans to move to a contract-based system which would require charities to go through a tender process

Stronger Kent Communities REVAMP Quality Mark

As part of the Stronger Kent Communities consortium activities, the Canterbury & Herne Bay Volunteer Centre will be hosting the next Kent-wide workshop featuring the REVAMP (Recognition of Excellent Volunteer Management & Practice) Quality Mark.

The purpose of the REVAMP Quality Mark is to both showcase and increase best practice in Volunteer Management across Kent. Formulated by a number of Volunteer Centres in Kent, the Quality Mark has recently been successfully piloted in the Canterbury District and is now being extended across Kent.

REVAMP is a low cost, straight forward process which will enable you to show that your organisation offers meaningful and well-supported opportunities to existing and potential volunteers.

This workshop is free to attend but submissions for the REVAMP Quality Mark will include a £100 charge per organisation.

YoungMinds Welcome Project

YoungMinds Welcome is a new project focussing on supporting the mental health needs of refugee and asylum seeking children through workforce development. In the first year the project will consist of:

  • Free conference focusing on the mental health needs of refugees and asylum seeking children: (27th February 2018)

  • Free 1 day training on Trauma Informed practice with asylum seeking and refugee children: (April-July 2018)

  • Free Open Access courses from YoungMinds suite of courses (September-December 2018)

Homelessness Support Service for Vulnerable Adults in Kent

Kent County Council (KCC) funds homelessness support services for vulnerable young people (16-25), adults who are over 18 and offenders who need additional support. Currently, those services can be categorised as either ‘supported housing’, ‘floating support’ or ‘rough sleeper outreach’.

We would like to hear your views on the proposals contained within the consultation document, which refers to plans for those 18+, and your thoughts on how we might improve the future delivery of homelessness support for vulnerable adults in Kent. Your views will be used to help shape the future of these services after October 2018.
