CHARITY-OF-YEAR-KM

A royal welcome for KM Charity of the Year

There are just weeks left for good causes to apply to become their local KM newspaper’s Charity of the Year 2018 – and have the chance to be put forward for an award from the Queen.

Charities who win coveted KM Charity of the Year status will also be considered for submission for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK.

One cause will be selected to be KM Charity of the Year 2018 for each newspaper in the KM Group's portfolio including: Gravesend Messenger, Thanet Extra, Kentish Gazette, Medway Messenger, Sittingbourne Messenger, Sheerness Times Guardian, Maidstone Messenger, Kentish Express, and East Kent Mercury.

The winning charities will receive 12 months of support from the KM Group in print, on KentOnline (3 million unique browsers each month), and on kmfm radio plus access to fundraising opportunities run by the KM Charity Team.  For the first time, the editors at KentOnline, kmfm radio, and KMTV will also choose a good cause each to trumpet next year.

One of the selected causes will receive a bonus prize of a video package, created by the KM Charity Team, to showcase their work via website and social media.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: “We are aware there are a low number of entries and recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service coming from Kent - and we aim to use the KM Charity of the Year selection process to help put that right. The Charity Team will work with editors and causes picked to be KM Charity of the Year to see if they are appropriate to be proposed for this award. If they are, we will do everything we can to assist and ensure an application goes forward.”

He added: “I'm sure you understand we have no influence over the decision-making process involved with causes being awarded The Queen's Award, however we very much hope that a number of causes being named KM Charity of the Year are successful and also earn this coveted status from Her Majesty.”

Visit www.kmcharityteam.co.uk and click on the Charity and Fundraising Support link to submit an entry for KM Charity of the Year before noon on Friday, October 27.

We are seeking your views on changes to the content and structure of the annual return for charities and how we target questions so that they only require the information which is needed for regulatory purposes.
